Taylor Epps

Taylor Epps is an up and coming artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Originally from Charleston, South Carolina, she graduated with a degree in studio art from The College of Charleston. After relocating to Brooklyn in 2016, Epps often still travels between the two cities, visiting family and honing her craft. She has recently completed an artist residency at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, SC and has returned to Brooklyn eager to share her most recent body of work.

Epps’s most recent collection attempts to breathe new life into old family photos. Often these photos are personal in nature and reflect a moment in time the artist has deemed worth remembering and reflecting upon. By elevating family photos to the realm of “high art”, Epps strives to engage with them on a different level. Beyond the narrative and emotional content, she spotlights the artistic choices made by the photographers—the composition, lighting, and framing—all of which contribute to transforming a simple family snapshot into something extraordinary.

Through this creative process, audiences are invited to explore the intricate beauty of family dynamics, the passage of time, and the enduring connections that bind generations. In doing so, Epps offers a fresh perspective on these family treasures, ultimately transforming them into timeless pieces of art.
